The new series "Obugo Smile Cookies," made without 28 specific raw materials*1, will go on sale from August 3rd!
*1 This product does not contain any of the following 8 specific raw materials (shrimp, crab, walnuts, wheat, buckwheat, eggs, dairy products, peanuts) or 20 similar raw materials (almonds, abalone, squid, salmon roe, oranges, cashew nuts, kiwi fruit, beef, sesame, salmon, mackerel, soybeans, chicken, bananas, pork, matsutake mushrooms, peaches, yams, apples, gelatin). However, this product is manufactured in the same facility as wheat, soybeans, almonds, walnuts, sesame, bananas, apples, and oranges.
Since our founding, ovgo has been developing plant-based baked goods that do not use eggs, butter, or dairy products, with the aim of reducing the burden on the environment and encouraging people to think about social issues by not using animal ingredients and by using organic and local ingredients whenever possible.
Given this background, our cookies have been well received by customers from many more perspectives than we had anticipated when we developed them, including not only those who are interested in them from environmental and healthcare perspectives, but also those who cannot eat certain foods for religious reasons, and those with food allergies and their families. This made us realize that by simply changing the ingredients slightly, we could make something that even more people could enjoy.
The new series "Obugo's Smile Cookies," which will be released on August 3rd , is a challenge to make cookies that do not use 8 specific ingredients and 20 similar ingredients. Until now, in addition to cookies made with wheat flour, they have used soybean-derived ingredients such as soy milk as a substitute for milk, but this time the cookies use sorghum, which has been attracting attention in recent years as a gluten-free allergy-friendly ingredient, making them more accessible to a wider range of people.
There are three flavors: coconut, cocoa, and maple & pumpkin. As with previous ovgo Baker cookies, it took more than a year to develop the cookies, as they are so delicious that it is hard to believe they are made without eggs or butter. In addition, these cookies are made in a mini size of about 40g so that even children can eat one by themselves. They have a biscuit-like texture that is a little different from conventional cookies.
In addition, we have managed to make the price range of this cookie 180 yen per piece, making it easy for people to try it. We hope that through "Obugo Smile Cookies," you can easily incorporate plant-based foods into your daily life with a smile and with a delicious and fun taste.

💬Comment from the developer
The reason we decided to develop a new series that does not use 28 specific raw materials was because of the feedback we received from customers when we interacted with them as staff: "I have allergies, but I can eat ovgo Baker cookies deliciously." After hearing many such comments, we felt a strong desire to further spread the "joy of being able to eat something delicious," and so we began prototyping cookies that use sorghum.
Currently, we only have one production line, so we are not yet able to completely address the risk of allergy contamination, but in the future we would like to separate the production lines for this product and gluten-free products, and provide cookies that people with allergies can enjoy safely.
