The History of ovgo Baker①
Here's what's new about ovgo Baker so far.
2019/5-9 ovgo is born!
How ovgo Baker was created
I want to add another option
ovgo Baker started in the summer of 2019.
Good for the environment and society The desire to popularize plant-based food led to the creation of ovgo Baker.
At the time, the phrases "vegan option" and "gluten free option" that you see in American restaurants and cafes seemed very new to me, and I thought it would be good to spread organic, vegan, and gluten-free as options in Japan, rather than forcing them on others. So I took the initials of "organic, vegan, gluten-free as options" and named it "organic, vegan, gluten-free as options." I named it ovgo .
Zero Point Cookies, my first failure
The first cookies.
At first, I thought about introducing plant-based and vegan stores in Tokyo, or purchasing products that were already on the market and selling them, and I tried out a lot of different things, but I just couldn't find anything that satisfied me...
We tried making it ourselves using only plant-based ingredients, looking at American vegan recipes, and it was delicious!
We thought that what we made ourselves tasted the best, and although it would probably be difficult to continue this way, we decided to put aside what we would do next and just try making what we thought was the most delicious.
While adjusting the base recipe, I tried out various flavors and continued tasting cookies made with different flours and plant-based milks.I once had a senior in the baking world try something that I thought was delicious, but he said, "There's too much in it, I don't know what it tastes like. It's ground zero," which was a bit of a blow to me.
However, as a result of continuing our efforts and tasting, we have finally completed our current original cookies!
Ovgo Baker was born from a continuous learning process
2019/9/30 ovgo Baker starts with 27 followers!
There are sugars that vegans can use and sugars that they cannot use. We learned about the difference in environmental impact between organic and domestically produced products, and also learned about sustainability from LUSH staff and farmers who have stalls at the Aoyama Farmers Market.
From there we came up with the brand name ovgo Baker, created a logo and ovgo Baker was born.
2019/10-12 First sale.
First event stall
October 5, 2019, ovgo Baker debut
Cocoya CCC is still around today. Now they can grill food that looks more delicious...!
Bake it every day, carry it around and distribute it...
This is where my days filled with American cookies began.
And then, October 5th, 2019.
We set up a stall at the flea market at DEE'S HALL in Aoyama.
It's ovgo's official debut day.
With so many delicious things out there in the world, we were very worried about whether anyone would actually buy our cookies, but customers at the flea market bought them, said they were delicious, and were even willing to pay for them.
It was a rewarding day, as we felt a sense of accomplishment in what we had done up until now, and at the same time, we were able to find people who shared our beliefs.
When we explain that our products are vegan, people often say that they don't look tasty or that they don't eat much of it. Since that day, we at Ovgo Baker have been working hard to encourage people to try plant-based and vegan products by not telling them from the start that our products are vegan, but rather by simply getting them to try a bite.
We have also decided to wholesale to cafes!
Airstream Garden was our first wholesale customer.
As a result of carrying the cookies around with me every day and handing them out to people to eat, I decided to sell them to a cafe for the first time in November!
The first place that stocked our cookies was The Airstream Garden behind Omotesando Hills (unfortunately now closed).
At the time, we only knew how to bake about six loaves per ten minutes in one oven, and we didn't have enough money to buy ingredients or time to bake them, so we prepared almost the exact number of loaves for delivery on the first day.
From back then to now, the most fun and rewarding thing is seeing lots of people try our vegan cookies and say they're delicious!
What makes us happiest is when people tell us that they love our vegan cookies, which are made with our heart and soul.
In the midst of all this, we have decided to open a stall at the Aoyama Farmers Market, which we have been preparing for! Starting in January 2020, we will finally be opening our stall at our beloved Aoyama Farmers Market. (Continued)
